| Poetry was one of the earliest forms of communication. After first singing them, the early civilizations learned to remember rhythmic groups of verse easier and quicker by putting them into rhyme (couplets, and other forms.) This type of versification remained popular for thousands of years until Modern Poetry came to edge out structured rhythmic verse for 'free verse' - possibly first defined by Arthur Rimbaud and other poets in France in the late 1800's. |
